‘Art is the literacy of the Heart’


 

 
Entry Requirments:

5 GCSEs at grade 5 and above, gained a ‘5’ grade or above at GCSE Art & Design, or demonstrate a strong commitment to the arts and have achieved a 5 grade in GCSE English.

 

You can:

Apply to enrol on the A Level Art & Design course. This course is a two-year course which encourages students to further explore and research a wide range of media in order to acquire an increasing understanding of skills and techniques. Choosing Art & Design can help to balance out creatively other academic subjects.

 

This will mean:

You produce both a sketchbook and number of design sheets which use a range of source material to develop personal inquiry. This may include notes, experimental studies, collected images, artist references as well as drawings and sketching and demonstrate an interest in the arts which extends beyond the course requirements.  

Drawing forms an important element of this course and you will be required to work from observation and life figures to explore a range of media.

 

This course will appeal to any student who:

Enjoyed experiences of GCSE Art and Design and who may be considering a future pathway involving the arts. An ability to draw to a reasonable standard is essential.

A-level Art and Design lays excellent foundations for a career in the creative industries, although the ability to 'think outside the box' and the observational skills learnt through this subject are considered valuable in a whole spectrum of professions. There are many art-related career paths that Art A-level can ultimately lead to, although even for those students focusing on more scientific subjects, Art can provide a welcome and useful contrast that equips them with a complementary set of skills.

 

You will:

Produce a portfolio of work,  a final outcome and complete a 5 hour controlled test in the first year and a personal investigation and written study in the second year with a 15 hour controlled test at the end of the A level.

 

Course Modules are:

  • production of a portfolio of work from a theme determined by the centre which demonstrates a developing range of work that showing exploration, research & acquisition of skills and techniques

  • completion of final outcomes and a written personal study in the second year.

  • a controlled assignment where candidate select from a number of themes presented by the exam board leading to a fifteen-hour controlled test which allows candidates to realise their intentions.

 

With this subject you could:

Continue to develop your art education and choose to work in a specialist discipline in order to enter Higher Education and study at degree level. This may involve foundation or graduate courses in a variety of different specialisms including textiles, fashion, graphic design, game design, illustration and so much more. This is an exciting time to work in the Arts, there are all sorts of exciting creative opportunities coming out in response to our current times.
