Child Development

Subject Leader – Social Sciences
Miss E Ley
In Child Development at Notre Dame our aim is to inspire young people to pursue meaningful careers working with children as well as instilling the professional skills and personal attributes needed to work in this field. Studying Child Development offers pupils the opportunity to explore the key patterns of growth and development between the ages of 0 to 5 years. Pupils also perfect the practical techniques needed to plan, structure and develop different kinds of play to promote learning in an early years setting.

By following this specification we endeavour to ensure all of our pupils develop a passion for childcare led by the belief that every child should have access to safe, structured and meaningful learning opportunities led by a responsible, well informed professional.

Throughout the course students will cover topics such as external factors affecting growth and development, adapting play for differently abled children and structuring play to enhance learning opportunities. By the end of the course our pupils will be ready to pursue their chosen career path either at KS5 or via a vocational apprenticeship.
